Yes. Porchlight can groom multiple dogs from the same household in a single visit. Each dog is groomed individually and completely before the next begins, so every dog gets the same one-on-one attention and care. The van is fully cleaned and sanitized between each dog, so your second dog steps into the same fresh environment as your first. Back-to-back same-household grooms are one of the most popular ways busy households use Porchlight. Just add each dog when you book and I'll schedule enough time for both.

With a traditional salon, grooming day means a drop-off, a pickup, and a window of uncertainty in between. With Porchlight, I come to you. You hand me your dog at your front door and go about your morning. No driving, no waiting rooms, no coordinating your schedule around a pickup call. For households with multiple dogs, the time savings are even greater since I handle everything in one visit. Most clients tell me it's the first grooming experience that actually fit their lives.
-
No. I ask that an adult be available at the start and end of every appointment to hand off your dog and receive them when we're done. In between, you're free to go about your day. I'll text you when I arrive, keep you updated if anything comes up during the groom, and reach out before making any changes to your service or invoice. Most clients are inside their home, out running errands, or working while I'm with their dog. As long as you're reachable by phone, we're good.
-
Yes. Porchlight's online booking lets you schedule at your convenience, selecting the day and time that works for you without waiting for a callback or navigating a phone queue. The easiest way to keep grooming completely off your mental load is to book your next appointment as your current one wraps up. Your dog is clean, you're happy, and your next visit is already on the calendar before I pull away from the curb. No chasing, no reminders, no last-minute scramble when your dog is overdue.
-
Yes, always. Porchlight is owner-operated, which means I'm the only groomer you'll ever work with. No rotating staff, no handoffs, no explaining your dog's quirks to someone new every visit. I keep detailed notes from every appointment and send you a grooming report after each visit, covering your dog's coat condition, behavior, anything I noticed, and recommendations for next time. Every visit builds on the last. For dogs who take time to warm up to new people, that consistency isn't just convenient, it's genuinely better for them.
-
Every dog I groom has a profile that travels with them from appointment to appointment. Before your first visit I'll ask about your dog's history, any past grooming challenges, coat concerns, and preferences. During the groom I take notes on what worked, what didn't, and anything I noticed about their coat or skin. After every appointment you'll receive a grooming report summarizing the visit and any recommendations for next time. By your second or third appointment I know your dog. Their name, their quirks, their favorite scratch spot, and exactly how to make the experience as calm and comfortable as possible.
-
Almost everything. At a franchise or chain, you're a booking in a queue. Staff rotates, standards vary, and your dog is one of dozens moving through the same space that day. At Porchlight, you work with me directly, every time. I own the business, I do every groom, and I live in the same neighborhoods I serve. I know your block, I know your dog, and I'm reachable by text, not a call center. My pricing is generally comparable to a salon, but the experience is categorically different. One dog, one groomer, parked right outside your home. That's not a selling point. That's just how I work.
-
Yes, fully. Porchlight is insured through Travelers Insurance, and I hold a Certified Professional Groom Tech credential from the Paragon School of Pet Grooming, one of the most respected grooming education programs in the country. I'm also certified in Pet CPR and First Aid through CPR Seattle, current through 2028, and I'm actively continuing my education through Paragon's advanced coursework and American Kennel Club certification programs. What's worth knowing: Washington State does not require groomers to be licensed or formally trained. Most learn on the job. I chose to pursue credentials before I ever took on a paying client, because I believe grooming is a skilled profession and your dog deserves someone who treats it that way.
-
For most anxious dogs, yes. Traditional salons are busy, loud environments with unfamiliar smells, other dogs, and often multiple handlers. For a dog who's already nervous, that's a lot to navigate before the grooming even begins. At Porchlight, your dog is groomed in a quiet, private van parked outside your home. There are no other animals, no waiting, no crate time, and no handoffs. I work at your dog's pace, use cooperative grooming techniques that follow their lead, and never rush an appointment. For dogs who've had difficult salon experiences in the past, mobile grooming is often the first time grooming feels manageable, for the dog and for their people.
-
Carefully, and on their terms. Dogs who hate being groomed have usually had experiences that felt rushed, forceful, or overwhelming. My approach is the opposite. I start every new client with a complimentary Meet & Greet, a no-pressure 15-minute introduction where your dog can explore the van at their own pace before any grooming begins. During the groom I use cooperative grooming techniques, meaning I follow your dog's lead, take breaks when they need them, and never push past what they're comfortable with. Some dogs need a few visits before they fully relax. That's okay. I keep notes on what works and build on it every time. If your dog has had bad experiences elsewhere, Porchlight is a good place to start over.
-
Yes, and reactive dogs are some of the clients I'm best equipped to serve. Reactivity in grooming settings is almost always triggered by the environment, other dogs, unfamiliar handlers, confinement, or feeling rushed. Porchlight eliminates most of those triggers by design. Your dog is the only animal in the van, there's no crate time, no waiting room, and no rotating staff. I work one-on-one, at your dog's pace, using cooperative grooming techniques that prioritize trust over speed. I ask about your dog's reactivity before we begin so I can prepare appropriately, and I'll always be honest with you if I think a different approach or additional support would serve them better. Most reactive dogs do beautifully in a mobile setting. It's often the first time grooming has actually worked for them.
-
Your first Porchlight appointment starts before I arrive. When you book, I'll ask about your dog's breed, coat type, temperament, and any past grooming history. That gives me time to prepare before I pull up to your curb. I'll text you when I'm on my way and when I arrive. For first-time clients I offer a complimentary Meet & Greet, a 15-minute introduction where your dog can explore the van, meet me, and get comfortable before any grooming begins. Once we're ready, I'll confirm your preferences and walk you through what the appointment will include and what it will cost before we start. After the groom I'll return your dog to you, share a grooming report covering what I observed and any recommendations, and you can book your next appointment before I leave. The whole experience is designed to feel predictable, transparent, and low-stress, for your dog and for you.
-
Not much is required on your end, which is part of the point. Before I arrive, take your dog for a short walk or let them out to use the bathroom. A relaxed, empty dog is a more comfortable dog. Have them ready with their collar or harness on when I text that I'm arriving. If your dog has any health concerns, medications, or known sensitivities, jot those down so we can talk through them at the start of the appointment. Beyond that, the best thing you can do is stay calm yourself. Dogs read their people closely, and a relaxed handoff sets the tone for the whole groom. If this is your dog's first grooming experience, or first mobile grooming experience, consider starting with a Meet & Greet so they can explore the van before the appointment begins.
-
That's exactly what the Meet & Greet is for. It's a complimentary 15-minute introduction where your dog can explore the van at their own pace before any grooming begins. Starting with a Meet & Greet is the best thing you can do for a first-time grooming experience. I start every groom with a conversation where you can share your preferences, concerns, and your dog's health background with me. This ensures we all go into every groom prepared and confident.
-
It depends on your dog's size, coat type, and temperament. Essentials Grooms typically run 60 minutes to 2 hours. Add-on services and more involved grooms run longer, typically 90 minutes to 3 hours depending on the service. I always prioritize your dog's comfort over the clock, so I never rush.
-
Mobile grooming typically costs 20 to 35% more than a traditional salon, and for good reason. A dedicated van, one-on-one attention, and a groomer who comes to you represents real additional value. At Porchlight, I've worked to keep that gap as small as possible. My pricing is generally comparable to a North Seattle salon, and where there is a difference, it's modest. Starting prices for an Essentials Groom begin at $80 for smooth and short coats. When you factor in the time saved on drop-off and pickup, the reduced stress on your dog, and the consistency of working with the same groomer every visit, most clients find the value straightforward. Full pricing is available on the Services page, and I confirm your exact cost before every appointment begins.
-
For the right household, mobile grooming isn't just more convenient. It's genuinely better. Traditional salons are built for volume. Dogs are dropped off, crated between handling, and often passed between staff. For dogs who are anxious, reactive, senior, or simply uncomfortable in busy environments, that model creates stress before the grooming even begins. Mobile grooming removes most of those triggers entirely. At Porchlight, your dog is groomed one-on-one in a quiet, private van parked outside your home. No crates, no other animals, no waiting, no strangers. For busy households, the time savings alone make it worthwhile. No drop-off, no pickup, no rearranging your day around an appointment window. And because I'm the only groomer your dog will ever see at Porchlight, every visit builds on the last. The experience gets better over time, not just consistent. Sanity over vanity, every time.

Porchlight primarily serves North Seattle neighborhoods including Ballard, Fremont, Green Lake, Phinney Ridge, Whittier Heights, Greenwood, Wallingford, Magnolia, Queen Anne, and Capitol Hill. My home base is Whittier Heights, so I know the streets, the parking, and the blocks I serve. If you're not sure whether I come to you, the easiest way to check is to enter your address when you book online. The booking site will confirm your service area automatically. If you're just outside my current range, reach out anyway. I'm the owner and sole operator, which means I get to make exceptions. Text or call me at (206) 549-3338 and we'll figure it out.
-
I ask for at least 48 hours notice for cancellations or reschedules. Late cancellations may result in forfeiture of your deposit. I also understand that life happens, and will always work to accommodate you. If something comes up, just communicate with me as early as possible and we'll work it out.
-
The deposit secures your appointment and is fully applied to your final invoice. It's not an additional fee. You'll receive your final invoice electronically once the groom is complete.
-
I work with most breeds and coat types, with a few practical limitations worth knowing upfront.
Porchlight is not able to accommodate dogs over 100 lbs. For dogs in the 86-100 lb range, size alone isn't the deciding factor. Temperament is. Please share what you know about their history and behavior when booking. A calm, cooperative large dog is a wonderful client. A highly reactive one can be genuinely unsafe to manage in a mobile salon, and I'll always be honest with you about that.
If you're unsure whether Porchlight is the right fit for your dog, reach out before booking. I'd rather have that conversation early than have either of us surprised at the appointment.
For all other breeds and sizes, the booking site will walk you through selecting your breed, size, and coat type so I can prepare appropriately.
-
I do not. My own dog, Sadie, would never forgive me.
-
Not a standard service, but if you're nearby and flexible on time, just text me at (206) 549-3338 with your request and I'll reply ASAP. Nail trims run $20-$30 and a quick wash runs $30-$75, always based on breed, size, and temperament. For appointments more than 2 miles outside Whittier Heights, a $10 fuel surcharge applies.
